What is LCIF?

Lions Club International Foundation (LCIF) is the charitable arm of the Lions Club International (LCI) and is a public, non-profit corporation. Donated funds are disbursed as grants for humanitarian projects in local communities as well as for projects that have global impact. LCIF receives contributions from individual Lions, Lions Clubs, corporations and other foundations. Since it founding in 1968, LCIF has approved more than US$220,000,000 for humanitarian service projects that have improved the quality of life in thousands of communities worldwide.

GRANT CATEGORIES

Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) awards grants in nine categories:

SightFirst – Lions’ global initiative to reduce and eliminate, where possible, avoidable blindness. Funding priority is given to developing countries where the majority of unnecessary blindness exists.

Standard/International Assistance – Standard Grants provide matching funds up to US$75,000 for large-scale projects that address important humanitarian needs. Projects must serve many people, involve a group of Lions clubs, and exceed the scope of traditional district fundraising capabilities.

International Grants fund partnership projects between Lions clubs in at least two countries for amounts between US$5,000 and $30,000 on a matching basis to fund smaller-scale development projects in needy countries such as medical missionaries, primary health care, food-self sufficiency, aid for disability organizations, and clean water initiatives.

Core 4 – A highly focused program available for amounts up to US$200,000 on a three-to-one matching basis and restricted to specific priority projects adopted by LCIF under four current program areas:

  1. Preserving Sight – Children’s Eye Photoscreening Program, Low Vision Treatment and Services
  2. Promoting Health – Diabetes Prevention and Treatment
  3. Combating Disability – Lions Habitat for Humanity Disability Housing Program
  4. Servicing Youth – Expansion of Lions-Quest

Emergency – Awarded in amounts up to US$10,000 immediately following natural disasters to fund distribution to relief aid.

Major Catastrophe – Awarded in amounts of US$50,000 and above to help fund longer-term reconstruction projects following major calamities
